Join AHA for our FREE workshop all about smart solutions to help schools win on wellness an earn recognition through AHA's Healthy School Awards in the process.

USDA Smart Snacks

  • Paula De Lucca, WCPSS Child Nutrition Services (CNS) Senior Director, will talk about USDA Smart Snacks options available for school celebrations and demonstrate how to use the Smart Snack calculator to find out what's compliant and what's not.
  • Take home the NEW list of CNS options schools/classes can order for celebrations!
  • Taste test! Sample a Smart Snacks-compliant treat from CNS!

Active Transportation

  • Walking/biking to/at school provides students with daily opportunities to be active and start their school day focused and ready to learn.
  • Learn why it matters, what resources are available, and how your school can win AHA's Sneakers and Spokes Award.

Measuring Wellness & A Roadmap to Change

  • Hear about the Healthy Schools Program from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and how schools can use this FREE tool to assess their school wellness and put action plans into place to win on wellness.
  • Schools in Wake County that meet criteria in 3 specific modules can earn AHA's Brains and Bodies Award.
  • Incidentally, being Smart Snacks savvy and promoting walk/bike to school will go a long way towards your school qualifying for this award!
  • Shauvon Simmons-Wright, the Alliance's Healthy Schools Program Manager for North Carolina, will join us to answer questions.
